Adak Community Development Corporation

In 2005 the United States Congress allocated 10% of the Western Aleutian golden king crab to Adak as part of Crab Rationalization to aid in the development of seafood harvesting and processing activities within the community of Adak.

The City chartered an independent non-profit, the Adak Community Development Corporation (ACDC) to manage the Adak crab allocation and for the future efforts of obtaining the status of a community quota entity (CQE), in order to purchase halibut and other species to develop the local economy

Some of the priorities of the Corporation:

  • Monitor fisheries regulatory, management, and marketing issue that may impact Adak fisheries. Influence policies, management, and environmental initiatives to create a more stable fisheries economy in the region.
  • Increase Adak ownership of Individual Fishing Quotas (halibut, sablefish) through the CQE program.
  • Work with government agencies to research and develop fishery programs for Adak.
  • Help in develop small boat harbor and related infrastructure to support the local seafood industry and resident fishing fleet.
  • Help in development of support services for the fishery industry for Adak.
